May Tele Town Hall | Raising the Minimum Wage

May 15, 2015

retro-phone-1We hope you have time to join our upcoming Tele Town Hall about raising the minimum wage in Oregon. We know you’re hearing a lot about this idea — both nationally and in Oregon — so we want to give you a chance to get up to speed with a few experts and living wage advocates.

At Family Forward Oregon we believe that people should not work full-time and still struggle to get by. And we know that women, families, and people of color are most affected by low wages in Oregon and across our nation, and that too many of the families around us are struggling, even in this growing economy. Raising the minimum wage to a living wage is an essential step on the road to creating an Oregon where women and the families who depend on them can be economically secure now and into their futures.

So we’re hosting a Tele Town Hall on Friday, May 29th from 12-12:30 PM with some terrific co-hosts: the Fair Shot for All coalition, Our Oregon, and the Oregon Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW).

On the call you’ll hear from special guests Oregon Senate Majority Leader Diane Rosenbaum and the National Employment Law Project’s Paul Soon about the need to raise the minimum wage in Oregon. We want people to hear from the experts why we need to raise the minimum wage, how Oregon’s minimum wage system currently works and how we got here, who earns minimum wage in Oregon, why taxpayers are picking up the tab for low-wage corporations, and what you can do to bring living wages to Oregon.

Thanks for taking time to learn more about the need to raise Oregon’s minimum wage. It’s outrageous that in 2015 some of our friends and neighbors are working full time but not bringing home enough income to rise above the poverty line. For shame.

Remember: you need to RSVP to get a call-in number and password for the call.  Just click here.

Looking forward to a great conversation on the 29th,
